How Bayern Tried to Exploit Attacking Corners Against Man City

We all know that set pieces have become very important in modern football,so Bayern chose their attacking corners plan by knowing how citizens defend corners.

Man city defensive shape in corners:

-City defended with:

• 5 players in first zone line (red) with instructions for De Bruyne to go forward to get the first touch(defend flick).

-2 players in second zone line(black).

-2 man markers (green),Grealish with upamecano and bernardo with de ligt.

Gundugan (yellow) started in rebound zone and went to defend short corner if happened (there wasn't a short corner in this match so we won't talk about short corner instructions).

Bayern plans:

-Bayern had two ideas against this shape.

First idea:

-the first one is to target De ligt alone with Bernardo on far post (mismatch).

-3 runners went to near post(green).

-Upamecano moved in front of Akanji to have his attention preventing him to help on far post.

-Goretzka started his movement in front of Ederson to the near post to make Ederson think that the near post is the target.

Gnabry blocked ake to make deligt alone with Bernardo.

But Ederson had time to go back to far post then punched the ball.

-The same idea again but the targeted zone was more inside.

-Upamecano went outer with Gralish.

-Gnabry blocked Ake.

-De ligt was alone with Bernardo.

The second idea:

-The second idea was to exploit the distance between Rodri and De Bruyne when De Bruyne goes forward to defend flick.

-Coman moved in front of De Bruyne pretending that he would flick the ball to make him moved forward.

-Goretzka moved in that space.

Goretzka sticked to Debryune's back to escape from Rodri then stepped back in that space.

-but he was unlucky and the ball passed him to Rodri.

Now, we all saw that amazing battle in corners and how battle of set pieces became more important now.
